Growing up in Houston in the 80’s, Ron Stone was the anchorman at KPRC Channel 2 and he was like part of the family. He is a regular kind of guy, not a Geraldo or Oprah type. This was before there were 15 news channels to choose from with all of the hosts yelling and doing whatever they thought would bring higher ratings. Ron Stone passed away in May at 72 years old. I felt as if a relative passed away.
Today, I do not watch as much news on T.V. anymore due to those hosts and anchors that I mentioned above. However, there was one guy that seemed like a normal guy that could be a part of the family, he did not have a face lift, wear the shiniest suits nor yell and make himself more important than the story itself. That guy was Tim Russert of NBC News. He passed away today at the age of 58 from a heart attack.
After thinking about how people that we see on T.V. impact us in various ways as Ron and Tim did for me, I wonder how well I am making an impact on those that I come in contact with. I think of not being caught up in looks, making things greater than they appear to be liked or elevated and not letting myself be bigger than the story… no, I should not be bigger than the most newsworthy story of history, the Gospel of Jesus Christ! I hope I am making an impact and He is receiving glory!
